Choose the outing

Decide whether you want a short outing or a longer walk, and ask your accommodation for an appropriate route. Confirm the entrance, any access conditions and the way back. The photograph here shows the John-Suwan panorama in 2020; it does not establish today’s trail condition or entrance price.

Set yourself up

Plan the walk for a time and distance you are comfortable with. Carry water, wear suitable footwear and keep a route available offline. If weather or access makes the original plan unsuitable, choose another activity. Ask locally rather than relying on an old opening-hours listing.
