First time in Koh Tao: arrival, where to stay and what to do
Plan your first Koh Tao visit: choose a base, keep arrival day flexible, and pick a 2-, 3- or 5-day itinerary around your interests.

Before you arrive
Choose your arrival route before filling your first day with activities. Confirm the departure point, ferry check-in and any land transfer with the provider. Save your accommodation address and ask your host how to get there from the pier. Keep the arrival day flexible in case a connection changes.
Choose a base around your plans
Start with the places you expect to spend time, then compare accommodation locations. Ask the property about pier transfers, room noise, steps and meal options. For a short stay, fewer transfers can make more room for the activity you most want.
Pick one main experience
The Tourism Authority of Thailand highlights beaches, snorkeling and scuba diving, as well as hiking and yoga, in its Koh Tao overview. Choose an experience that suits your interests and leave room for travel between places. A non-diving visit can work around a beach outing, a walk or time near your base. Check access and conditions directly before setting out.
Decide how many days you can use
Our 2-, 3- and 5-day suggested plans count arrival and departure days. Two days leaves less room for outings; three adds another flexible day; five gives more room for an operator-confirmed activity or a change of plan. If you want a diving course, confirm its full schedule before arranging your other days.
Keep the departure day simple
Save your onward ticket and confirm the transfer and check-in arrangements. Choose an optional outing near your base only if it fits. Keep litter with you, leave marine life untouched and follow the access instructions at each place.
